Acquire the tools of life
This playful piece features crayon drawings of various wire mesh products made by Tsujiwa Wire Mesh.
The design is coordinated in similar colors, creating a calm and stylish look. The rough depictions of a wide variety of everyday items, such as bread grids and tea strainers, are suited to modern lifestyles, and the meticulous craftsmanship of the artisans is expressed with a soft touch, adding a sense of familiarity.
Tsujiwa Wire Mesh
Founded in 1933, Tsujiwa Wire Mesh is located just a short walk south from the Sakaimachi Gate of the Kyoto Imperial Palace. This long-established company has been producing wire mesh in this area since the beginning of the Showa era. Carefully woven from stainless steel and copper wire, their products are imbued with the refined craftsmanship and charm of handcrafted workmanship, and their ease of use has made them popular not only in restaurants but also in ordinary households.
Produced by Ihara Dyeing
Ihara Dyeing Co., Ltd. / Founded in 1962
It is hand-dyed in 25m lengths by Ihara Dyeing Co., Ltd. In an age where dyeing is mostly done by machine or inkjet, this hand-dyed tenugui has a rich, heavy feel that is truly precious.

This design was selected as part of a competition in which researchers from the Kyoto Center for Traditional Culture Innovation Research (Kyoto University of Art and Design) were asked to reflect on the cultures that are being lost that they have seen and felt in their research activities and turn them into designs.
