Tsujiwa Wire Mesh

Founded in 1933, Tsujiwa Wire Mesh is located just a short walk south from the Sakaimachi Gate of the Kyoto Imperial Palace. This long-established company has been producing wire mesh in this area since the beginning of the Showa era. Carefully woven from stainless steel and copper wire, their products are imbued with the refined craftsmanship and charm of handcrafted workmanship, and their ease of use has made them popular not only in restaurants but also in ordinary households.

This design was selected as part of a competition in which researchers from the Kyoto Center for Traditional Culture Innovation Research (Kyoto University of Art and Design) were asked to reflect on the cultures that are being lost that they have seen and felt in their research activities and turn them into designs.
