TOCHU
Winner of the Good Design Award in 2020. Focusing on the idea that "the interesting thing about crafts is the process," these scarves and stoles were commercialized by stopping the production "midway." It is the user, not the craftsman, who completes "TOCHU."
Craftsman: Tabata Shibori
1. Miura Twist
Miura shibori is a shibori dyeing technique where fabric is pushed up with fingers or needles and each grain is tied with a thread.
The charm of this technique is the raised polka dot pattern, created by the un-dyed white areas where the thread was tied.

2. Technique narrowing
The "tesuji shibori" technique involves carefully creating fine pleats in fabric and then wrapping them with thread to tie-dye the fabric.
It is characterized by the delicate and vibrant striped patterns that appear when the fabric is unfurled.

3_Itajime Shibori
The "itajime shibori" technique creates patterns by folding fabric between two square boards (型板 - kataban, "pattern boards") and dyeing it.
By dyeing the outer edges of the squares to prevent the dye from penetrating the center, a checkered pattern is produced.

1_Sekka Shibori
"Sekka Shibori" is a technique in which folded cloth is sandwiched between triangular boards (templates) and dyed to create patterns.
Because triangular boards are used, the dyed patterns look like snowflakes, hence the name "snowflakes."

2_Horizontal stripe
"Yokodan shibori" is a dyeing technique in which fabric is folded eight times (mountain folds and valley folds), the threads are squeezed at equal intervals, and the parts that will not be dyed are dyed by skipping one step.
The charm of this print is the soft lines of the border that can only be achieved by shibori.
