TOCHU

Winner of the Good Design Award in 2020. Focusing on the idea that "the interesting thing about crafts is the process," these scarves and stoles were commercialized by stopping the production "midway." It is the user, not the craftsman, who completes "TOCHU."

Craftsman: Tabata Shibori

1_Sekka Shibori

"Sekka Shibori" is a technique in which folded cloth is sandwiched between triangular boards (templates) and dyed to create patterns.
Because triangular boards are used, the dyed patterns look like snowflakes, hence the name "snowflakes."

2_Horizontal stripe

"Yokodan shibori" is a dyeing technique in which fabric is folded eight times (mountain folds and valley folds), the threads are squeezed at equal intervals, and the parts that will not be dyed are dyed by skipping one step.

The charm of this print is the soft lines of the border that can only be achieved by shibori.
