Kaga Yuzen is said to have originated over 500 years ago.
Kaga Yuzen, which developed in the culture of the samurai class, is a dyed fabric that uses many colors but with a realistic and calming effect that captures the beauty of the four seasons. Each process is produced using skilled techniques, and Kanamaru Dyeing has inherited the spirit of "good for display and good for wearing" and continues to take on new challenges while preserving tradition.
Hanao, the traditional footwear that has adorned the feet of Japanese people
"HANAO SHOES" is a new standard that incorporates the "hanao" straps that have been attached to sandals and geta sandals for hundreds of years and have adorned the feet of Japanese people into modern sneakers. "HANAO SHOES JAPAN" (Spring 2023) will produce 47 types of HANAO SHOES using locally dyed textiles from all 47 prefectures.
Then, in spring 2024, a new version of HANAO SHOES was born, allowing customers to change the straps themselves.

The sneakers now come in black, the straps are now removable, and the sneakers have a sleeker look.
With just one pair of shoes, you can customize your HANAO SHOES to suit your style. The sneakers are made by MOON STAR (Kurume), and the straps are all handmade by Japanese artisans.
Wear it on a sunny day
The hanao straps contain cotton and a pattern, so they will lose their shape if they get wet. To ensure they last longer, we recommend removing the hanao straps on rainy days or when washing your shoes.
