Enbun Byakko Suzaku Nishiki
The design features a white tiger and a vermilion bird in a circular frame, and is an auspicious motif based on the ancient Chinese idea of the four gods. The white tiger is considered the guardian deity of the west, and the vermilion bird is considered the guardian deity of the south, and the design is both powerful and gorgeous. The hanao cord is modeled after the brocade that was handed down from Horyuji Temple in the Asuka period, and is a modern reproduction of the design from that time.

Tatsumura Art Textiles has established a new field called "art textiles" based on the research and restoration of ancient textiles. They have devoted themselves to the study of traditional textiles such as the ancient textiles preserved in Horyuji Temple and Shosoin Repository, and have continued to express the "beauty of weaving" that combines precision and boldness, elevating textiles to the level of art.
Hanao, the traditional footwear that has adorned the feet of Japanese people
"HANAO SHOES" is a new standard that incorporates the "hanao" straps that have been attached to sandals and geta sandals for hundreds of years and have adorned the feet of Japanese people into modern sneakers. "HANAO SHOES JAPAN" (Spring 2023) will produce 47 types of HANAO SHOES using locally dyed textiles from all 47 prefectures.
Then, in spring 2024, a new version of HANAO SHOES was born, allowing customers to change the straps themselves.

The sneakers now come in black, the straps are now removable, and the sneakers have a sleeker look.
With just one pair of shoes, you can customize your HANAO SHOES to suit your style. The sneakers are made by MOON STAR (Kurume), and the straps are all handmade by Japanese artisans.
Wear it on a sunny day
The hanao straps contain cotton and a pattern, so they will lose their shape if they get wet. To ensure they last longer, we recommend removing the hanao straps on rainy days or when washing your shoes.
