“HANAO”, an essential item for Japanese people's fashion

“HANAO SHOES” is a new standard that puts the “HANAO” into the modern sneaker. Hanao has been used to color the feet of Japanese people for hundreds of years on zori and geta . In the spring of 2024, a new version of HANAO SHOES was born, with which the customers can change the “HANAO” themselves.

Choose the “HANAO” and make your own sneakers

The sneakers are now available in black, and the “HANAO" is now removable, making it a sleeker sneaker.

You can now customize your own pair of HANAO SHOES to suit your own style just by having one pair. The sneakers are made by MOON STAR (Kurume) and the “HANAO" are all handcrafted by Japanese craftsmen.

HANAO SHOES_ISEMOMEN

Usuishokufu / Established in the mid-Edo period

Usuishokufu is the only factory in Japan that continues to produce Ise cotton, a traditional handicraft of Mie Prefecture, specializing in its color composition and pattern design. Ise cotton is a material that is well suited to the seasonal climate, so much so that in the days when kimonos were in use, cotton was the everyday wear of choice. Ise cotton is woven delicately with threads in a near-cotton state, so it can only be woven on power looms, which have been in use since the Meiji era.

Wear them on a sunny day

Because the HANAO is filled with cotton and patterned paper, it will lose its shape when wet. We recommend removing the HANAO when it rains or when washing the shoes in order to keep wearing them for a long time. Please feel free to contact us for care instructions as they vary depending on the fabric of the HANAO.
