Iwai Dyeing Works / Founded in the early Meiji period
This long-established dyeing workshop in Kyoto has been dyeing kimonos using the "kata-yuzen" technique for over 100 years since the early Meiji period.
"Kata-yuzen" is a technique in which patterns are carved into Japanese paper coated with persimmon tannins and then used to dye the fabric. Iwai Senko is particularly skilled at creating delicate small pattern designs.
