A workshop to experience the traditional culture of Kyoto from the comfort of your home, learn its essence, and enjoy it with all five senses.

The theme of this course is "Kyoto Prayer Beads." We are honored to invite Mr. Sozo Fukunaga, the 9th generation head of Fukunaga Nenjuho, a family business that has passed down its traditional techniques and philosophy as prayer bead craftsmen in front of Kyoto's Higashi Hongan-ji Temple since its establishment in 1797, as our lecturer.

Through prayer beads, Mr. Sozo Fukunaga contributes to activities in many regions, not only in Kyoto but also overseas. In the lecture, he will talk not only about the history of prayer beads, but also about their connections and initiatives with various regions. Recently, more and more people are wearing bracelet-style prayer beads as talismans to calm their minds and regain their true selves by touching prayer beads. Prayer beads may be a source of support for modern people who are pressed for time and various roles.

The Kyoto Craftsman Workshop is an online course where you can experience traditional culture with Kyoto craftsmen in real-time, online, using a PC or tablet. After applying, a dedicated material kit will be delivered to your home before the live lecture begins.
