You can now customize your own pair of HANAO SHOES to suit your own style just by having one pair. The sneakers are made by MOON STAR (Kurume) and the “HANAO" are all handcrafted by Japanese craftsmen.

Natsujiro Shoten / Kogin-sashi Artisan

Kogin-sashi, a traditional sashiko embroidery technique originating from the Tsugaru region in Aomori Prefecture, is the heart of Natsujiro Shoten's creations. Each piece is meticulously hand-stitched, one needle at a time, to craft unique, mismatched hanao straps.

The patterns in kogin-sashi each carry their own meaning, making every strap a one-of-a-kind item. With different designs on each strap, you can mix and match to create a personalized look for your HANAO SHOES.

Wear them on a sunny day

Because the HANAO is filled with cotton and patterned paper, it will lose its shape when wet. We recommend removing the HANAO when it rains or when washing the shoes in order to keep wearing them for a long time.
